MPP National Conference Call – 3/22/2018

Having recently switched to monthly from weekly calls, there was much to talk about this week! Senate Democrats joined Republicans in voting for the largest rollback of the Dodd-Frank Act since 2008. The bill raises the threshold at which banks are considered “too big to fail” from $50 billion in assets to $250 billion in assets, setting the stage for more bailouts in the next recession.

During the call we asked supporters to join our volunteer teams in social media and field organizing. Unfortunately our conference call system never took note of those who raised their hands to volunteer. So we’re asking that those who would like to volunteer fill out our volunteer form and check the areas where you can help out.

On social media, we’re looking for folks who would like to join our moderator or amplify teams on Facebook or Twitter. In field organizing, we’re looking folks who would like to join our leadership team as a state, regional, campus, or local organizer.

On March 24, the Movement for a People’s Party took to the streets across the country in solidarity with the March For Our Lives. Gun control is a key plank in The People’s Platform and we were inspired to see a new generation rising. From gun violence to higher education, from health care to endless war, the corporate and billionaire money buying up our government is at the heart of the problem. The people’s voice will ring free in Congress and statehouses across the country when we liberate ourselves from the big money establishment parties.

On Thursday April 5, we’ll be launching our chapter in Chicago. We’d love to help you launch a chapter in your area too. Use the Chapter Building Guide to help you get started.

At the end of our call, we held a vote asking supporters if they’d like to partner with The Poor People’s Campaign. We are proud to report that the vote was overwhelmingly “Yes!” It will be an honor to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Dr. King’s Poor People’s Campaign with Reverend William Barber, Reverend Liz Theoharis, and the many other great activists and organizations joining together in a national call for moral revival.

We look forward to speaking with you on our next monthly national call on Thursday April 26th, at 9:30pm EDT.

From Miami to Phoenix, from Denver to San Francisco. Everywhere we go we hear such praise and encouragement for what we’re doing. People light up when they hear about us. Thanks for making this dream come true!
